The church custodian is a part time position that reports to the lead pastor and the personnel committee; and is a valuable member of the church staff.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be self-directed and able to complete all duties with little to no supervision.
Must be flexible and willing to adapt to varying schedules and level of work required from week to week.
Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds.
Must be able to spend several hours standing, walking, reaching, and bending over.
Must be willing to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for events.
Must have knowledge of different cleaning techniques, including stain removal, disinfecting, waxing, and more.
Must be proactive, attending to messes before they are brought up or requested.
Must be responsible and able to arrange for duties to be accomplished even when the individual cannot manage alone.
Education and Experience
No degree necessary.
Must be familiar with general cleaning techniques and able to follow safety requirements.
Must be trained (or willing to train) on blood borne pathogens and the proper clean up of bodily fluids.
Must be able to follow directions and communicate with staff.
Salary and Work Schedule
The Church Custodian FLSA designation is hourly at the rate of $14.00
The Church Custodian will work no more and no less than twenty hour per week; unless authorized by the lead pastor and personnel committee.
At no time, is the church custodian authorized to exceed forty hours in any given week without prior authorization from the lead pastor and personnel committee.
All hours worked must be logged and turned in weekly to the lead pastor.
This position will work a minimum of four days through the week; and perform a walk-through on Saturday to ensure church buildings are clean for Sunday
This schedule can be adjusted, in communication with the lead pastor and personnel committee.
Weekly Responsibilities
Sanctuary: Dust furniture, vacuum carpets, empty wastebaskets, and clean out the aisles of programs or paper left behind.
Classrooms: Empty wastebaskets, clean/disinfect tables, dust mop/vacuum floors, and wet mop as needed.
Offices: Empty wastebaskets, vacuum carpets, and dust as needed (not including desks).
Restrooms: Empty wastebaskets, scrub sinks, toilets, urinals, dry and wet mop floors, keep all restrooms stocked with toilet paper, paper towels, and soap. This is to be done twice a week prior to Wednesday and Sunday services.
Kitchen Areas: Wipes down and disinfects the kitchen weekly and after any events.
Activity Building: Empty wastebaskets, dust mop, vacuum carpet, spot mop as needed.
Quarterly Responsibilities
There will be up to ten additional hours available to complete these quarterly tasks.
Ordering necessary supplies needed to perform job.
Sanctuary: Removing cobwebs, etc. Dusting and polishing furniture, spot cleaning carpets.
Classrooms: Removing cobwebs, etc.
Offices: Removing cobwebs, etc.
Restrooms: Removing cobwebs, etc. Clean/disinfect stall, light switches, and door handles.
Kitchen Areas: Removing cobwebs, etc. Clean/disinfect light switches and door handles.
Annual Responsibilities
There will be up to ten additional hours available to complete these annual tasks.
Sanctuary: Clean windows/window sills.
Offices: Clean windows/window sills. Clean base-boards, shampoo carpets as needed.
Kitchen Areas: Clean windows/window sills. Clean base-boards, and outside of cabinets.
Vacation Bible School: Daily cleaning will be required during this week. The custodian will work a minimum of two hours per day for the week.
